Neutral Milk Hotel Book in stores in November
A book about the making of "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" is set to be released in
early November. It is part of a series of books called 33 1/3 which profile different
"classic" albums. While Jeff was not interviewed for the book, I'm hoping the interviews with
some of the other E6 people can paint a good picture. We'll see... |

Olivia Tremor Control albums back in print
After 3 years of being out-of-print, both Olivia Tremor Control albums
are now back in circulation. When the band's former label Flydaddy declared bankruptcy in 1999 it
left the albums in legal limbo for years. The band finally regained the rights to their
records last year and have re-issued them through the label Cloud Recordings.
You can order them at: www.cloudrecordings.com.
Expanded "deluxe" editions of both albums are planned for sometime later this year.
Details are still being worked out but it looks like the package will include a bonus disc
that contains previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of songs on the
album and other goodies.

Apples members announce new projects, new albums
As if they weren't busy enough, Robert Schneider reports that he has started a new project
called Ulysses with a couple other musicians in his new homebase of Lexington Kentucky.
Hilarie Sidney also has a new band called High Water Marks in which she sings
and plays guitar. Both bands are recording albums this summer.
Of course, the Apples in Stereo are still together. Having just finished extensive touring
for their latest record Velocity Of Sound, they're taking a break for the rest of
the summer before they begin recording their next album tentatively titled The Novelty of the Manor.

Beulah Re-Issues First Album (again)
Handsome Western States, Beulah's first release which is currently out-of-print, will
soon be available once again. The CD was orginally released in 1997 with a run of 1,000 copies.
After it sold out, the band still received numerous requests for this debut CD so another 2,000
copies were re-issued in 1999 with new artwork. But after the second pressing sold out, there
were still many requests for the CD. Copies even began surfacing on eBay for excessive amounts of
money.
The band has decided to release a third pressing of the CD. Copies will be available through
their website: www.beulahmania.com
in the beginning of March.

Pet Sounds Studio forced to relocate
Hilarie Sidney of the Apples reports that the building that Pet Sounds studio is housed in will
be demolished this week. It was bought by some developers a while ago but they just recently
kicked out the old tenants. Apparently they will be constructing a high rise on the property.
The studio, owned and operated by Robert Schneider of the Apples and Jim McIntyre of Von Hemmling,
has been the birthplace of so many incredible records including: most Apples records,
Neutral Milk Hotel -Aeroplane Over the Sea, Olivia Tremor Control -Dusk at Cubist Castle
and Black Foliage, Great Lakes, Von Hemmling, Beulah, The Minders, and so many others.
No word on where the studio will be relocating.

Beulah hops labels again
The official beulah website reports:
For those of you who were worried that Beulah got caught in the all-too-familiar merger madness...
worry no more 'cause everything's fine. Beulah's new LP The Coast Is Never Clear is scheduled to
be released September 11th on Velocette Records. What happened to Capricorn you ask? Well,
Capricorn is longer in existence. The company, along with bands like 311, was sold to a bigger
company earlier this year. The only bands that weren't sold were Beulah, The Glands, Jucifer, and
The Honeyrods. Anyway, seven former employees of Capricorn decided to start up a brand new
indie label called Velocette. So, those of you waiting to hear Beulah's major label debut, don't hold
your breath.

Bryan Poole leaves Elf Power!
In a sudden, unexpected move, bassist Bryan Poole stepped away from his position in
the band Elf Power. Just as the band was hitting the last note of the last songs
on the last date of its recent UK tour, Poole officially threw in the towel... but not until after
throwing down his Bullet bass onto the floor on London's Roto Club and smashing it into pieces.
The split was reported to be amicable.

Robert Schneider working with XTC frontman
Apples in Stereo leader, Robert Schneider has been working on some recordings
with none other than Andy Partridge of XTC. Apparently Mr. Partridge phoned up Robert
after receiving some of the Apples' records from their label SpinArt. This collaboration
will most likely see the light of day on Robert's next solo project entitled "Orchestre Fantastique".
